Every year, US importers lose money to a number they never calculated correctly.
A $40,000 container that really cost $56,400.
A US furniture importer sourcing from China sees a clean $40,000 supplier invoice. What the invoice doesn't show: Section 301 (25%), the forced-labor tariff (12.5%), MPF, HMF and freight stack on top — a 41% gap that stays invisible until the port. Price off the invoice and the margin is gone.
Zentria surfaces the real number before the PO — so you price for profit, not surprise.
Illustrative scenario: wooden furniture (HTS 9403.60.80) from China, $40,000 FOB, using the rates in force in September 2026 — 0% MFN, 25% Section 301 (List 3), 12.5% forced-labor tariff, MPF and HMF on the FOB value. Not a specific customer. Your numbers depend on your product, origin and Incoterm.
Methodology
How the number is calculated
Where the rates come from
Duty rates come from the USITC Harmonized Tariff Schedule (checked live where available), China Section 301 list membership parsed from HTSUS Chapter 99, and USTR's forced-labor tariff tiers, which replaced the expired Section 122 surcharge on 24 July 2026. Exchange rates are fetched live, not cached.
What the number includes
MFN duty, Section 301 where the origin is China, the forced-labor tariff, Section 232 for metals, autos and wood, MPF and HMF, VAT or GST for the destination, freight, insurance and brokerage — itemised, so you can check each line rather than trust a total.
What it is not
An estimate for planning, not a customs filing. Classification drives everything, and a wrong HS code changes the answer — verify with a licensed customs broker before you file. We show the code used so you can challenge it.

The Section 122 surcharge expired. Your tariff didn't go away.
On 24 July 2026 a forced-labor Section 301 tariff replaced it: 12.5% on China, Vietnam and Thailand, 10% on India, Indonesia and the UK, and a 10–12.5% combined rate for the EU, Japan and Korea. It stacks on MFN duty and China's Section 301 lists. Check your landed cost before your next order.

HTS codes, CBP, and Section 301 — what every US importer must know
US imports are classified under a 10-digit HTS code (Harmonized Tariff Schedule). Your base MFN duty comes from the HTSUS; China-origin goods add Section 301 (7.5–25% on most lists, up to 100% for a few products), and goods from 60 economies add the 10–12.5% forced-labor tariff. Duty is charged on the transaction (FOB) value. On top, you pay the Merchandise Processing Fee (MPF, 0.3464% of entered value, min $34.58 / max $670.86) and the Harbor Maintenance Fee (HMF, 0.125%, ocean only). Importers on DDP terms with a Chinese supplier should check who pays these — mistakes cost thousands per container.
10-digit HTS code determines your base duty rate — a single digit error can swing rates by 12%
Section 301 China lists: Lists 1–3 carry 25%, List 4A 7.5%; List 4B (laptops, phones, toys) is suspended
The $800 de minimis exemption is suspended for every country — even small parcels owe duty
CBP Form 7501 (Entry Summary) must be filed within 10 working days of cargo release

Know your landed cost. Now set the right price.
Most importers calculate what a product costs to land — then guess at the retail price. Sell Price Advisor closes that gap. It reads your landed cost, recommends the ideal margin for your sales channel, then checks live market data to show what similar products actually sell for.

Frequently asked questions
Yes. You get 3 free landed-cost calculations a day without creating an account, and 10 a day with a free account — no credit card either way. Each calculation includes customs duty, China Section 301, the forced-labor tariff, Section 232 where it applies, MPF, HMF, freight and VAT. The Growth plan ($49/month) makes it unlimited.
The calculator covers 70+ origin countries including China, Vietnam, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea, India, Canada, Mexico, EU member states, and more. Duty rates come from the 2026 Harmonized Tariff Schedule (checked live against USITC where available), the Section 301 lists in HTSUS Chapter 99, and USTR's forced-labor tariff tiers.
There are now two Section 301 tariffs. The original one applies only to goods of Chinese origin: 25% on Lists 1–3, 7.5% on List 4A (most apparel and footwear), 0% on the suspended List 4B (laptops, phones, toys), and 25–100% on products raised in the four-year review such as semiconductors, batteries and EVs. The second is the forced-labor tariff that replaced Section 122 on 24 July 2026: 10–12.5% on goods from 60 economies. The calculator looks up your exact HS code and applies both.
Tariffs and import duties are nearly the same thing — both refer to a tax charged by customs on imported goods. 'Tariff' is the policy instrument (the rate schedule), while 'duty' is the dollar amount owed. In practice, importers use both terms interchangeably.
An HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule) code is the 10-digit US customs classification number for your product. It determines your base duty rate. Use the free AI HTS Code Lookup to find the correct code for any product in seconds — just describe your product in plain English or upload a photo.
Yes. China's Section 301 list rates remain in force, and since 24 July 2026 Chinese goods also pay the 12.5% forced-labor tariff. They stack: MFN base + Section 301 list rate + 12.5% + MPF/HMF. Cotton T-shirts, for example, pay 16.5% + 7.5% + 12.5% = 36.5%. Steel, aluminum, copper, autos and some wood products pay Section 232 instead of the forced-labor tariff. The calculator applies every layer for your exact HTS code.
It expired. Section 122 of the Trade Act of 1974 allowed a flat 10% surcharge for 150 days; it replaced the IEEPA tariffs the Supreme Court struck down in February 2026, and ran out at 12:01 a.m. on 24 July 2026 without Congress extending it. The same minute, USTR's forced-labor Section 301 tariff took effect on 60 economies: 10% for 17 of them (including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, the UK, Canada and Mexico), a 10% combined rate with MFN for the EU and Taiwan, 12.5% combined for Japan, Korea and Switzerland, and 12.5% for the rest, including China, Vietnam and Türkiye. USMCA-qualifying goods and Section 232 goods are exempt.
The Sell Price Advisor is a pricing tool built into the landed cost calculator. Once your landed cost is calculated, it recommends an optimal retail sell price based on your target margin (Break-even, Lean 20%, Healthy 35%, or Premium 55%) and your sales channel (Amazon FBA, Wholesale, or DTC). Optionally, the AI Market Price Intelligence feature queries live market data to show what similar products actually sell for — so you can price competitively from the moment you land the goods.
The AI market scan analyses your product category, origin country, and destination market, returning a market low–mid–high price range with a confidence score. It draws on training data and real-world commerce patterns. It is a directional guide, not a real-time price feed — always validate against live marketplace data before making final pricing decisions.

Zentria Flow replaces spreadsheets, broker quotes, and manual email re-entry with AI-verified automation — from the first supplier email to the final duty payment.
Dynamic landed cost automation
Zentria computes the full landed cost stack — MFN duty, China Section 301 list rates, the 10–12.5% forced-labor tariff, Section 232, EU/UK/Turkey VAT, MPF, HMF, freight, and brokerage — in under 2 seconds. Rates come from the 2026 Harmonized Tariff Schedule and USTR's published lists, not static spreadsheet models. Unlike CargoWise (requires a full TMS license) or SAP GTS (requires a certified implementation partner and 6-month setup), Zentria activates in 10 minutes with a free tier.

Suppliers send rate quotes, booking confirmations, and customs invoices as unstructured emails and PDF attachments. Zentria's AI reads supplier emails, extracts structured shipment data (HS code, Incoterm, cargo weight, declared value), validates against current tariff rules, and creates draft TMS records — all with human-in-the-loop approval before any booking is confirmed. This is email-to-TMS booking automation with a full AI audit trail.
Learn about email-first automationAI trade compliance automation
Zentria pre-validates trade compliance before goods ship — not after CBP flags an error. The AI classifies every product to the correct 8-digit HS code, checks FTA eligibility (USMCA, EAEU, RCEP, EU-Turkey Customs Union), monitors live anti-dumping orders from USITC, and writes every classification decision to an immutable audit trail that satisfies CBP Reasonable Care documentation requirements. The AI is bounded: duty rates cannot change by more than ±3%; every override requires human approval.
