EU Tariffs 2026

The EU has no free trade agreement with the US. A 10% reciprocal tariff now applies to all EU goods after the proposed 20% rate was paused in April 2025. Section 232 adds 25% on steel and 10% on aluminum. The EU is both a major US supplier and a prepared retaliator.

The 2025 Reciprocal Tariff on Europe

The Trump administration justified the 20% EU rate by pointing to the EU's asymmetric tariffs — most notably the EU's 10% duty on US cars vs the US's 2.5% on EU cars, plus differences in food standards, VAT treatment of US goods, and agricultural barriers.

Rate stacking — understand your real exposure

The 10% reciprocal tariff is stacked on top of existing MFN rates, not replacing them. A product with 3.5% MFN pays approximately 13.5% total. Steel pays 25% §232 + 10% reciprocal + any MFN = up to ~41.5% on some categories. Use the calculator to model your exact shipment.

The EU has prepared a retaliatory tariff package targeting US goods (bourbon, Harley-Davidsons, agricultural products) and has stated it will deploy these measures if US tariffs are not reduced through negotiation.

Key EU Exporting Countries

Germany — machinery, cars, chemicals
France — aerospace, wine, luxury goods
Italy — fashion, food, machinery
Netherlands — chemicals, electronics re-exports
Ireland — pharmaceuticals, software
Belgium — chemicals, diamonds
Spain — food, automotive, machinery
Sweden — vehicles, machinery, paper

All EU member states are covered under the same reciprocal tariff rate. Individual country-level differences only arise from product-specific ADD/CVD orders.
